Unbecoming Collection
On a personal level, this collection marks an important turning point in my life. On a more universal level, I am sharing a journey that many of you can relate to.
This collection has 3 phases. “Unbecoming”, “Threshold” & “Becoming”.
The “Unbecoming” phase is dominated by dark textured metallic paintings. This signifies the suffering, the shedding and the letting go. The “Threshold” phase, embodied by bluey green hues, expresses the turning point, the transition or an “overcoming”. The “Becoming” phase is all about the release, the freedom, and the arrival. This plays with fiery reds and yellows, signifying a journeying into the light - the “coming home” to oneself.
I began this self-transformation about 10 years ago, after a long painful betrayal followed by loss. During this time, I started doing the "inner" work. One of my biggest insights was the concept of "Unbecoming". I had not thought about unbecoming anything. I had always thought I needed to become someone who was "better" or "different" or "more of" something. It made me realize that maybe this "inner transformation" is not about becoming anything...but rather peeling off the "stuff" that no longer served; “stuff” that was hiding ones true authenticity. Maybe it's about unbecoming everything that isn't really you, so that you can become who you were always meant to be.
Here began my mission to “un-become” and come home to myself. Once I could return home to “myself" I was ready to "be-come" who I was always meant to be in the first place.
I believe all of us are on a journey to “un-become” from something or someone.
I hope you find something from the “Unbecoming” Collection that speaks to you.

Unbecoming Phase
"Fractured" explores moments when we feel lost and unsure of where to step next.
This is one of my earliest artworks as I moved out of an unwanted situation and took the leap of faith to restart my life. It expresses being lost and broken yet the upward flow in the painting embodies the "restart".
This luxury scarf features an original abstract artwork where antique gold is etched against obsidian and white creating a vibe of beautiful chaos.
"Layers" explores the complex levels we operate in our life. This belongs to the "Unbecoming" phase. It is expressing the many roles we each play on a day-to-day basis yet beneath all these roles there is something much more to our humaneness.
"Hidden Treasure" explores the depths of inner beauty and ones "own" inner treasure.
I was inspired by a scene which captured a dark space with shells and beautiful stones from the sea....it was like a hidden treasure chest.
It reminded me that we all have treasure hidden deep inside of us. This is especially important when one is going through some tough times and as we all wrestle living in a fast-paced, distracting world.
As part of the “Unbecoming” phase I created "Resilience" to capture the essence of quiet strength and the power to endure.
It was painted a bit later than “Forest” when I had some direction in my life - yet it was a tough road to be on!
What images or colors come up for you when you reflect on the times when you had to be resilient?
There are times in life where everything feels uncertain and tough.
Times in life when it is a struggle to even know what the next move is.
This is something we can all relate to.
During these times I find myself returning to nature. Trees are my medicine and bamboo particularly fascinates me with both its agility and resilience.
Threshold Phase
"Unknowing" explores the undoing of things that no longer serve us; of returning to a state of simplicity and purity when nothing else works. I remember the time I finally peeled off some heavy layers that were no longer serving me in my life. This made me feel neutral and still....and this color combination felt so "right" at the time I painted it. This belongs to the "Threshold" phase. It almost feels like a space of solitude.
"Surge" expresses relief after overcoming a big change or milestone. It symbolizes life transformations - when one has been riding the waves of change and finally lands on the beach to rest. I am in awe of the ocean's power; I love watching how the water moves effortlessly, creating its own artistic patterns as it dances. This lightweight scarf features an exclusive print from an abstract artwork, blending blue hues, greens & whites to create a dramatic water scene using mixed media to create a feeling of surging water.
When you see this artwork and read the title "New Day" what messages or meanings come up for you?
As part of the “Threshold” phase, this was painted to express the emotions right after a major transformation.
Some transformations can be gradual and barely realized, whereas other transformations can be sudden & dramatic.
"Flow" is a reflection of movement without force. It's unfolding in its' own flow. It depicts the emotions of impending change - where movement meets stillness, where blue meets green to create harmony. I painted this when I was approaching a big milestone which was hard to face & I knew I needed to accept it and flow with it.
As part of the "Threshold" phase, "Beginning" is expressing the experience of fresh & positive transitions. Everyone experiences this at least once in their lifetime. I painted this to celebrate a close friend's new chapter as she embarked on a life adventure. She is a force of nature in her own right and this was her "energy" at the time.
"Presence" explores the concept of oneness. It beloengs to the "Threshold" phase. The light colors hint at internal clarity & awakening. I painted this to try and express my inner essence. My essence feels safe, airy and serene. This is the first artwork I painted where I did not think or have an image of what I wanted to paint.
Becoming Phase
"Awakening" expresses the concept of openess and vulnerability. I was at a stage in my journey where I needed to learn how to open up and be non-judgmental about myself. This was a big part of my own "Becoming".
Dramatic reds, orange and yellows help me express release and transformation.
I created "Phoenix" during a significant transition in my life.
It was a time I felt totally empowered & liberated.
When you experience such powerful transitions in your life - what colors speak to you? How do you feel?
"Solstice" embodies the center of one's existence, the pulse of life, the Sun. It is part of the "Becoming" phase. I painted "Solstice" towards the end of my personal transformation. The Sun has always been a central symbol for me.
"Inner Flame" is the sister artwork of "Soltice" & takes the concept of "belonging" one step further. This painting explores the concept of belonging to oneself. This peice is a part the "Becoming" phase. It is capturing ones energy in motion with oneself.
"Within" expresses the beauty of just "being"; being still and at peace. This artwork was inspired by "Arrival" (an earlier artwork) and since I had entered my "Becoming" phase, I wanted to capture the embodiment of being my whole self.
"Arrival" expresses finding ones own truth. This artwork belongs to the "Becoming" phase. It is the final painting of the "Unbecoming" Collection. It expresses the feeling of arrival after a long period of inner-searching and discovery. It is about finally reaching the destination. I felt so serene when I painted this & wanted to create the feeling of resting. What does the concept of "Arrival" look like for you? What do you see or feel when you look at this artwork?
"Veil" is a part of the "Unbecoming" phase and is a reflection of what remains unseen. It explores the layers beneath perception.
This artwork was one of my earliest designs when I was struggling with hidden truths and things buried beneath the surface that could not be dug up. I wanted to express the uncomfortableness of unkowing.
